Team Volunteers

Doing Your Part

We need your time more than your money!

A $100 volunteer deposit is required from all parents at sign-up. We will cash that check if parents fall short of the eight hours volunteer commitment, but please don't make us do it!

The swim team could not exist without everybody taking a turn to perform the functions that are needed to run meets, practices, etc. None of the jobs are difficult, but all are critical for making this a safe, fun activity for our kids.

Volunteering

Look out for notices on the website, in the newsletter and on the notice boards at the pools for details of volunteers needed at meets. Always remember to claim your hours promptly (i.e. immediately) using the Volunteer Claim Form so that you get your deposit back.

A wide range of skills are needed, from the pool to the BBQ grill. Because a meet last several hours, we run all of these jobs across two or three shifts:
Timers & ScribesAccurate timing is essential at all meets, and NWAL has defined a system of timing that uses multiple individuals from both teams to ensure fairness and accuracy.
Scribes do the paperwork and pass the results on to the computer team and the swimmers themselves.
Computer Team Heat scheduling and time recording is all done using a computer system specified by NWAL, which allows us to publish results quickly to let the kids know how well they are doing.
We need a small team to manage the system and keep everything straight. We will train you as needed.

Tent Parents & Ready Bench Any activity involving large numbers of grade-schoolers is bound to be logistically demanding! Our Tent Parents and Ready Bench stewards are key members of the team who make sure that everybody gets where they need to be at the right time.
Concessions, Cooks, etc. Keeping everybody fed and watered on a hot Texas summer day can be demanding too. We provide a variety of snacks to keep everybody going...which inevitably means we need volunteers to keep the place tidy, too.
Set Up & Tear Down Crew We need early risers with strong backs to help set up the dozen or so canopies that are needed to keep the sun off delicate skin. And when it's all done, it all has to be taken down again... Others There are plenty of other tasks and wiling helpers are always welcome. Just ask any of the officials, and we will always find some way to help you complete your eight hour commitment.
